Brian McArdle - Director of Gleeds

Gleeds has attended MIPIM since its inception 27 years ago. The annual event provides a unique opportunity to increase our professional networks, and promote our business on the global stage. With 23,000 people arriving in Cannes for four days of networking, you get the opportunity to meet some of the most influential individuals in the property and construction industry. Bringing together investors, local authorities and property professionals, MIPIM provides a platform to showcase the Manchester City Region’s investment potential to the world. More investment, means more construction and a stronger regional economy.

Manchester has always been at the forefront of national and regional strategy, including both the devolution deals and the Northern Powerhouse agenda. With their new powers, the newly elected mayor will have powers over transport, housing and planning, and, in partnership with the private sector, will be a key driver in the construction industry by ensuring market conditions are right for the city.

My priority at MIPIM will be promoting what Greater Manchester and the Northern Powerhouse have to offer amongst Gleeds’ international and private sector contacts. Devolution brings with it changing strategies and new ways of working within newly formed combined authorities. The industry needs to adapt to this change quickly, as it accelerates the pace of projects through the planning and development process. In this situation, relationships and funding will be key.
