Jonathan Miley - Director of Exterior Architecture’s Manchester Studio

Written by Jonathan Miley

We are really looking forward to attending MIPIM as part of the Manchester Partnership this year.

Exterior Architecture opened a Manchester studio in February 2015 after a long period of working in the city starting in 2003 with our involvement in the development of Skyline Central. Our decision to come to Manchester was promoted, in part, by a conversation with Sir Richard Leese whilst in New Zealand, but more importantly by our desire to be more activity involved in Manchester’s exciting and ever developing property scene.

Since then we have been fortunate enough to work with some of Manchester’s best known developers, architects and planners on a number of exciting schemes. Our appointment to support Ask Real Estate and Patrizia on the first phase of development at First Street South is perhaps our biggest success in Manchester to date and this along with our work to support a number of other projects in Castlefield, East Manchester, South Manchester, Ancoats and Piccadilly has made our last 12 months in the city a great one!

If working in Manchester has taught us anything, it’s that Place Making is certainly on the agenda for the city. Not only is Manchester’s skyline set to change dramatically over the next few years, so is its streetscape and public realm. The spaces between buildings and how people use them are as important as the building themselves. As landscape architects it’s great to be working in a city that gets this and is working hard to develop world class spaces for a world class city. We are proud to be helping shape some of these spaces within the work we are doing.

These are exciting times for Manchester and we are looking forward to catching up and celebrating a great year to come with our Manchester Partners whilst at MIPIM.
